Signage Design Workshop at Umm Qais (Jordan)

A workshop held in Umm Qais, 13 talented students of design and architecture came together to create signage that vividly tells the story of this historic site. By integrating archaeological scientific research with innovative design solutions, they developed signage prototypes aimed at enhancing the visitor experience and deepening the connection to the past.

This intersection of archaeology and design highlights the potential for designers to not only provide practical solutions but also bring history to life through visualizations. The workshop concluded with a wrap-up event at the Department of Architecture and Design at Jordan University of Science and Technology, where participants showcased their design prototypes and shared their research processes.

We extend our gratitude to all the participants and partners who made this workshop possible. Under the framework of the EU-funded project "Support to Livelihoods through Cultural Heritage Development," the Goethe-Institut Jordanien/takween, in close partnership with UNESCO Jordan, the German Protestant Institute for Archaeology, MenaLab, Jordan University of Science and Technology, and the Department of Antiquities organized this enriching workshop on signage design in Umm Qais.

As one of the facilitators and trainer, had the privilege to guide these students through the process, witnessing their creativity and dedication firsthand. It was a rewarding experience that showcased the power of collaborative efforts in bringing historical narratives to life through design.
